Book of Durrow, Book of Kells

Manuscript copies of the Gospels which were produced in Columban monasteries of Ireland, in Durrow and Kells. These ornately decorated tomes represent a level of mastery of calligraphy and miniature painting remaining unsurpassed today. They display influences from La T'ene as well as from Germanic and Mediteranian sources.
