431 CE

Prosper of Aquitaine, in Chronicle, remarks on the official introduction of Christianity into Ireland, saying, "To the Irish believing in Christ, Palladius, having been ordained by Pope Celestine, is sent as the first bishop."[Herm] Palladius was sent to Ireland to counter the Pelagian heresy. This entry in the Chronicle was linked with an earlier entry (429 CE) in regards to Pelagius Agricola and the heresy. Pelagius Agricola was the son of Severianus, a Pelagian bishop.
Many sources treat Palladius as if he and Patrick (Padraíg) were one and the same.
