1152 CE - King David of Scotland Threatens to Attack Isle of Man

by Ronald MacGordon

King David of Scotland threatens attck and Olaf sends his son, Godred, to Norway to swear homage and secure Norwegian support. While he is gone, three sons of Harald, the blinded brother, come to Man, demanding it be divided amongst them. Olaf meets with them and while there is treacherously beheaded by an axe swung by one of the brothers. They take control of Man 1153- 1158, 1164-1187- Godred II (or, according to some sources, IV) Olavsson returns, is elected king by the chiefs and executes his father's muderers. After taking control of Dublin (for how long is unclear, but not of any great length) and returning to Man, he begins to act harshly and arrogantly towards his Manx people.
