1098 CE - Civil War on Isle of Man
by Ronald MacGordon
A civil war erupted between the South, where those who backed Crovan (including those who, although natives of the Sudreys, are non-Manx), and the North. The North won at a battle near Peel, on the West coast, traditionally, by the assistance of their women. (Watch out for those Celtic women!) Shortly afterwards Magnus arrived and took control. He established Man as a base of operations for his battles for control of the regions along the Irish Sea. He built at least two forts on Man, the main one on St. Patricks Island in Peel harbor. He had to leave, however, to reassert his control in Scandinavia.
