1040 CE MacBeth
by D. Charles Bettis
Macbeth (d. 1057 C.E.) was king of Scotland from 1040-1057. He was a commander for Duncan I, whom he later defeated and slew, and whose kingdom he took in 1040. He seems to have been an able king, but was defeated by Duncan's son Malcolm with the aid of Siward of Northumberland in 1054 and was killed by Malcolm in 1057. Malcolm then succeeded as Malcolm III.
